This is your Cemetery District and these rules regulations are meant to give uniform care and improvement to the maintenance of the District.
We respectfully ask that the suggestions are followed and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office

Smoking is not allowed on North Kern Cemetery District property.

• District Office hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm; Monday through Friday.
• Cemetery grounds will be open every day.

• All visitors are expected to conduct themselves and their activities in a manner appropriate for a cemetery, as determined by the cemetery authority.

• No soliciting will be allowed on premises.

• No commercial or student photography of any kind will be permitted.

• Pets must be on a leash and under control at all times. Pets, other than service animals, are not permitted on the grass; they are only allowed on paved areas. Waste is to be picked up and properly disposed.

• All items found outside the permitted vases will be picked up by grounds staff and disposed of on a Daily bases.


Burials
• All burial and/or disinterment charges must be paid 24 hours prior to the day of service. This is mandatory in order for the burial or disinterment to take place.

• Before any burial or disinterment takes place, all necessary burial orders and permits must be signed and received by the Cemetery Office.

• District policy requires that all caskets must be placed in a vault or liner of durable material for burial as approved by management.

• All burial or disinterment times , days and burial orders must be approved 24 hours in advance by District personnel. The District will not honor burial times and days provided by the public or funeral director unless approved by the Cemetery Office. Burials will only be permitted between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. No burial will be permitted on Saturday or on any holiday as designated by the Board of Trustees. All arrangements for Saturday burials must be made 48 hours (Thursday 11:00 am) prior to the scheduled time of service. Overtime charges will be added for all Saturday burials. All Saturday burials will be scheduled to arrive at either 9:00 am or 11:00 am.

• All Grave openings and closings, marker placements, planting of trees or shrubs and installation or removal of any embellishments shall only be performed by employees of the Cemetery District or authorized agent of the General Manager.

• Caskets will only be lowered when requested by the immediate family of the deceased. For safety reasons, the caskets will only be lowered when the persons observing the lowering stand back 50 feet from the grave. After lowering, no items of any kind, including dirt, may be placed on the casket or liner.

• There will not be any opening of caskets, urns or other receptacles containing human remains on Cemetery grounds.

• The Veteran Section is only for the interment of U.S. Veterans and their spouse.

• All cremations on existing graves must be approved by District personnel.



Headstone, Bench & Flower Rules and Regulations


Headstones

• All stones will be flat with no raised lettering or photos.

• All headstones will be made of granite, marble or bronze material.

• All stones will be a minimum of 3″ thick.

• All stones will meet the maximum size requirements: Adult Single- 14″x30″, Double- 14″x48″; Baby (East Side)- 10″x18″, Baby (West Side)- 8″x18″

• All fees will be paid in full prior to the placement of the stone.

• Stones will not be removed or replaced without the written consent and a signed release form by the owner of the lot.

• The District will in no way assume liability for damage or vandalism done after the setting, removal and placement of the stone has been made.

• A service fee will be charged and written consent will be needed prior to removing or destroying any type of monument.

• A maximum of 2 headstones will be permitted for each lot.



Benches

• All benches at the Veterans Monument must be made of Sierra White Granite. All other benches must be made of Marble or Granite.

• Any lettering on benches at the Veterans Monument will be black lithochrome.

• The maximum seat dimension size for all bench markers is 4″x14″x48.”

• The legs of the benches at the Veterans Monument will be tapered wider at the bottom and 4″ thick..

• All designs on the legs of the benches will be 4″ above the bottom of the legs and will not be allowed for benches at the Veterans Monument.

• The bench setting fee must be paid prior to the placement of the bench.

• All bench locations must be be pre-approved by Cemetery personnel with the final placement at the District’s discretion.

• The District will in no way assume liability for damage or vandalism done after the setting and placement of the bench has been made.

• Any bench damaged or vandalized must be repaired within 90 days by an agent authorized by the General Manager or it will be removed by the District. Any bench deemed a safety hazard will be removed immediately.


Flowers

• The grounds will be mowed, trimmed and the flowers will be picked up every first Friday of each month. Anything found on the graves on the first Friday of each month shall be subject to removal immediately. Flowers may be returned after 3:00 PM on the first Friday of each month. 


• Flowers are to be placed on the grave makers as long as they are placed in the provided receptacle in the makers foundation. Crosses and Solar lights must be placed in a provided receptacle in the maker foundation and shall be removable and are to be a maximum of 2 feet high. Any other items found on the graves such as fences, pictures, banners, food, beverages, balloons, etc., are not permitted and shall be subject to removal immediately.   

•Every reasonable effort will be made to care for flowers placed on the graves but neither the Cemetery District nor any of its employees will be responsible for anything of a movable nature that may be lost, stolen or damaged.
